Played 20, lost 1, drawn 2…
Won 17. Monaco’s home form in all competitions is excellent. This only increases the pressure on Manchester City in the 1st leg. City fans need only look back two years to when their opponents beat Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates at the same stage of this competition.
In that tie, Arsenal were more successful at Stade Louis II but paid the price for their home performance as Monaco progressed at their expense via the away-goal rule.
Guardiola’s side can, however, take solace from their own impressive away form, joint best in the Premier League. Their home form isn’t bad either, matching Monaco’s single league defeat, albeit drawing more frequently.
If this first leg is to be a stalemate Monaco will leave with a slight advantage, given the likelihood of goals. Whilst a narrow home defeat wouldn’t necessarily kill off the tie, City will be aware that outscoring Monaco at Stade Louis II will be a tall order.
