Yaya Toure should have seen red
It is fair to say referee Michael Oliver didn’t have the best of games and this did not just stop at poor penalty calls. A reckless and dangerous tackle by Yaya Toure could of, and probably should have, received a red card.
As he and Emre Can went to ground, the Ivorian went in extremely high and during the follow-through, he caught his counterpart square in the chest with his studs. Michael Oliver stood just metres away, yet for whatever reason, he only gave the tackle a yellow.
A match-defining moment, and had Toure been sent off, Guardiola may have had to switch up his tactics quite drastically, as Toure was the only holding midfielder in City’s 4-1-4-1 formation.
