Romelu Lukaku goal – 81 minutes
Having dropped down the Golden Boot pecking order as his opposite number scored twice, Romelu Lukaku responded with a goal of his own. This gave Everton encouragement for the final ten minutes.
Moving directly towards Jan Vertonghen in a central position, the Belgian striker got the better of his compatriot, who slipped on the edge of his own area. A costly error at a crucial time, the fall allowed Lukaku to advance on Hugo Lloris’ goal.
The Frenchman’s hand reached the ball as he dived low to his right, but wasn’t strong enough to prevent Lukaku from scoring his 18th of the season.
With a 2-1 scoreline, the match opened up in the final stages. Robles denied Kane a hat-trick by reading his attempted chip before Spurs recovered their two-goal advantage in injury time.
Less than a minute after doing so, substitute Enner Valencia scored, after a crossed free-kick landed straight into his stride. The two quick goals provided an exciting end to this encounter but had no bearing on the result, as Tottenham won by a single goal to remain second, seven points behind leaders Chelsea.
