Robert Green penalty save – 54 minutes
Following what should have been a routine corner clearance, Sheffield Wednesday were awarded a penalty. Despite there being little goal threat, Souleymane Doukara carelessly held onto Sam Hutchinson, and the referee rightly pointed to the spot.
Jordan Rhodes stepped up for his first penalty since joining the club, unsuccessfully trying to place it in the bottom corner. The accuracy was there but his strike lacked power and Robert Green was able to push the ball onto the post.
Wednesday had wasted a golden opportunity to tie the match, on a day when they had struggled to create any meaningful efforts on goal.
This game was as close-fought as expected, and either side may well have been happy with 0-0. Yet as happens so often in tight, competitive fixtures, one mistake or a moment of heroics can ultimately decide the game.
Gary Monk will be confident that his team can sustain their playoff form, whereas Carlos Carvalhal will have to prepare his side for more tough fixtures in coming weeks. Home ties against Norwich, Reading and Newcastle will likely determine their season.
