With Arsenal falling at the quarter-finals for the last five successive years, it seemed like they were facing a mountain of a task as they headed to the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich.

Despite the odds being stacked against them – Bayern haven’t lost at home for almost three years in Europe – Arsenal approached the game with hope, but things went downhill pretty quickly from the first whistle.

These three moments were pivotal in Bayern’s dismantlement of one of England’s top sides…

When Arjen Robben picked up the ball on the right-hand side, some 20 yards from goal, one would expect that three Arsenal players situated in front of him would be enough to contain the former Chelsea man.

Evidently, that was not the case, though, as Robben cut in on his favoured left foot and fired the ball about as precisely into the top corner as he could have ever dreamed of doing.

The goal came not only to the dismay of Arsenal fans but also to the on looking Rio Ferdinand, who was left astounded by the Arsenal players who just stood off the charging Robben, who scored a goal that has become something of a trademark of his.
