Three key fixtures that could define Tottenham’s season between now and the New Year

This fixture has turned into something of a rivalry between the two clubs, with a one way flow of players (and manager) from Hampshire up the M3 and round the M25 to north London. Spurs fans may well have bigger fish to try in derby terms, but for Southampton, with Portsmouth languishing in League Two and AFC Bournemouth very much a ‘new’ rivalry, Spurs is one of the fixtures they look out for first. This added spice to a match between (currently) a side gunning for European football, and another gunning (slight pun intended – sorry Spurs fans) for the top four, if not the title, makes a trip to St. Mary’s a difficult proposition for Pochettino. Southampton have not won at home against Spurs since their return to the top flight in 2012, and in fact have only beaten Tottenham once in their last eight meetings – the most recent tie at White Hart Lane in May. So history is on Pochettino’s side, he just needs to ensure his players deliver on the South Coast to maintain momentum into 2017.
