9 – Aguero fails to find the finishing touch

Despite Manchester City’s utter dominance of proceedings on Thursday they failed to find the clinical edge needed in front of goal to secure the three points and but daylight between themselves and United.

One man who won’t look back on his performance and be happy is Sergio Aguero – deemed fit enough to start after limping off at the weekend – who missed a catalogue of chances all evening.

The Argentine striker failed to add to his tally of 17 Premier League goals in spite of having nine shots against United – equalling his record for most shots in a league game without scoring back in 2015.

Six goals in his last six appearances in all competitions was the mark of a man in form and carrying confidence, but his rash, wild efforts rarely tested David de Gea in the Manchester United goal.

There’s no doubt that Pep Guardiola’s side have the right to feel aggrieved about not securing the win, especially considering they peppered the United goal with 18 shots, but they lacked the composure in goal to make it count; Gabriel Jesus’ introduction sparked them into life, but it was too little too late.

The race for Champions League qualificiation for next season is incredibly tight going into the final five matches, and if City miss out they will look back at this match as a big missed opportunity.
