Nottingham Forest have been extremely busy during the summer transfer window and their 11 new recruits have offered the club’s supporters hope that they can make a genuine challenge for the play-offs this season.
The Reds have tapped into world renowned agent Jorge Mendes to bring some very impressive Portuguese players to the East Midlands and boss Aitor Karanka will hope to have pulled off a masterstroke with the signings of Gil Dias, João Carvalho and Diogo Gonçalves.

After getting the majority of their business done early doors it doesn’t look like Forest will do much more incoming business this summer, but with the squad now looking a bit bloated there is a real possibility that some players will need to leave the City Ground.
It has been a while since Forest had much to shout about in terms of league positions but this summer’s recruitment drive has given supporters real optimism that things can be different this time around.
With the season just five days away from kicking off, we look at three deals that could be completed by Nottingham Forest this week.
Winger set to depart
Barrie McKay seemed like an exciting prospect when he was signed from Rangers by Mark Warburton last summer, but things just haven’t worked out for him under the management of Aitor Karanka.
According to the Nottingham Post, McKay could be about to join Championship rivals Swansea City after the Scotsman was told that he was free to leave the City Ground this summer.
The 23-year-old showed some promise at the start of the 2017/18 campaign but slowly lost his way and struggled to live up to the initial hype.
Youngster to leave on loan?
Academy prospect Ryan Yates has been the topic of discussion among the club’s supporters this summer and it remains to be seen whether or not he will be loaned out for the 2018/19 campaign.
Yates wasn’t in the starting line-up for the final pre-season game against Bournemouth and with Ben Watson, Jack Colback, Liam Bridcutt and Adlene Guedioura all vying for places in the middle of the park, his chances of featuring regularly look pretty bleak just now.
Having been out on loan at League Two and League One level last season, it would seem likely that the Reds will want to loan him to a Championship side if they do decide to let him go out in search of regular football and a move away from the City Ground could be finalised this week.
Finally secure right-back
Forest boss Aitor Karanka has already confirmed, via the Nottingham Post, that West Ham United right-back Sam Byram is a target for the Reds, as as the Spanish boss looks to cement his squad for the 2018/19 campaign.
Current right-back Tendayi Darikwa capped a superb pre-season by netting the opener in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth and even if Byram does sign terms at the City Ground this week, it now seems unlikely he will start against Bristol City.
One thing is for sure, however, Forest definitely need some competition to come in at right-back and the signing of ex-Leeds United star Byram would represent a bit of a coup for the Reds.
