Ragnar Sigurðsson

Not only does Ragnar Sigurðsson possess the most wonderfully Viking name a footballer may ever have, he also possesses the fierce tenacity and fighting quality that was the mainstay of his ancestors. The central defender, who earns his crust playing for FC Krasnodar in Russia, impressed during the Euros and may have caught the eye of many an English team looking to add some steel to their defence.

The Reykjavik born 30-year-old maybe coming towards the latter end of his career, but his quality was still evident over this summer’s tournament, putting in a man of the match performance against England and notching up a goal in the process. He was also a consistent rock in the heart of Iceland’s defence – up until the 5-2 defeat to France – putting in performance after performance and being a real cause of Strákarnir okkar’s historic run in the competition.

Sigurðsson would be a perfect signing for a newly promoted Premier League team or a Championship team looking for that little extra quality in defence to mount a promotion push, with his experience being something highly valued after a fairly successful career at Fylkir, IFK Göteborg, FC Copenhagen and now Krasnodar, racking up 61 international appearances and 2 goals in the process.

With a CV like that and now impressive Euro performances to add to that, a move to England may manifest itself in the future.
