Marouane Fellaini vs Fernandinho
A player deemed surplus to requirements for many Manchester United supporters last season, Marouane Fellaini has flourished under the Special One and seemingly become a key element in his plans
at Old Trafford.
Likewise, having started every competitive fixture of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign, Fernandinho is looking like the linchpin of the Manchester City midfield – with Spaniard David Silva and ex-Chelsea attacker Kevin De Bruyne acting as central midfielders in Guardiola’s new-look side.
Arguably the most crucial match-up in the coming Manchester head-to-head, both number six players will essentially be fighting to dominate and dictate possession in the middle of the park at Old Trafford.
Where Fernandinho advances in athleticism as a box-to-box midfielder, his Belgian rival follows suit in height and aerial ability. And although their roles appear to be much the same, the style of which each individual carries out their duties is significantly different.
The holding midfield position will be highly contested on Saturday, and only time will tell of whose skills will influence and favour the result of such an important fixture in the 2016/17 Premier
League calendar.
