Three Everton players who should be more involved this season

Mason Holgate

An absolute revelation, Holgate has come into Everton’s starting line-up and hasn’t looked out of place, one bit.

Holgate joined Everton last summer, where he spent the season with the Under 21 squad and was probably unlucky not to have seen himself involved with the first team last season.

He found himself heavily involved during pre-season, featuring as both a right back and centre back, impressing Koeman enough to have the 19-year-old within the first team for the start of the senior season. For me, his most impressive performance to date is his against Manchester United for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial, I thought he imposed himself and handled Zlatan Ibrahimovic well.

The England Under 20 international has looked calm and assured at the back for Everton this season, starting in all three Premier League games so far. He’s come into the side, as a right back and a centre back, sometimes alongside two others, but has applied himself in a professional manner.

Holgate has already featured more times this season than he did last, and I can’t see him stopping. Despite being early days, the talented youngster has already been likened to John Stones, who departed the club during the summer for a massive £47.5million.

Though Ashley Williams signed during the transfer window, alongside the existing Phil Jagielka and Ramiro Funes Mori, expect to see a lot more from this lad.

Stones, who?
