Three defenders Antonio Conte could sign for Chelsea this summer

Ricardo Rodriguez

Another area of defence which needs improvement for Chelsea is left full-back. It has been a problematic position ever since the departure of Ashley Cole, who without question was the best left-back to play in the Premier League. Losing him meant there was a huge void to fill.

Cesar Azpilicueta seemed to be the person suitable of turning the role into his own after an impressive 2014/15 campaign. However, he was unable to recreate his form the following season, much like most of the Chelsea team in all fairness.

The second choice Abdul “Baba” Rahman is still just 21-years-old and is clearly still adjusting to life in England and the Premier League, so who would be able to contest with Azpilicueta for the left-back spot?

Ricardo Rodriguez is someone who has not only impressed for Switzerland in Euro 2016, but has performed consistently for Wolfsburg for a number of seasons. The 23-year-old is known for his attacking prowess, with his forward runs a large part of his game.

He contributes significantly through set pieces, and has found himself as first choice for Wolfsburg on corners, free kick and penalties. Chelsea had this type of attacking full-back in the form of Ashley Cole in years gone by, so Rodriguez seems he could be the perfect fit. He also has the defensive qualities to match, with an excellent ability to head the ball and also to make last-ditch challenges.
