Moving to a 4-3-3
A tactical switch is huge. Jose Mourinho is a coach who can adapt to situations and change up his style based on the opponent, and at times, moving to a 4-3-3 and packing the midfield is an absolute must.
Given the quality of players we have in the middle of the park, it would definitely make sense. For example, you could have Morgan Schneiderlin at the base of the three; mopping everything up and doing the dirty work. You could then have a duo of Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba in front of him, which seems like a great balance of all the attributes needed to be successful in such a key area of the field.
Don’t be surprised if we see this switch against Manchester City this weekend. Pep Guardiola teams pride themselves on keeping possession for large portions of the game, and to combat that, a midfield trio is definitely the answer. It’d also give Paul Pogba more freedom to roam forward as there would be another man in behind him to stop the opposing counter attack.
