Three Arsenal transfers which could be about to happen on deadline day

Although some expect a quiet January for Arsenal, fans may be disappointed Mikel Arteta hasn’t overseen more business before deadline day.

It seems as if both Arteta and Edu Gaspar made the decision to commit the entirety of their spending to the summer, which saw the likes of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber arrive.

But with just hours remaining in the window, it’s not impossible that Arsenal could still conduct a signing and oversee a few departures.

That being said, The Boot Room have looked at three Arsenal transfers that could still sneak through on deadline day.

Three Arsenal transfers which could still happen on deadline day

First of all, we’ll look at two departures that now seem likely.

Defender Cedric Soares has been on the periphery of the Arsenal squad all season.

It was perhaps a surprise that he didn’t leave the club permanently or on loan last summer, leaving his £75k-a-week sitting dormont on the wage bill.

But with Galatasaray said to be keen on a deal before the Turkish window closes on February 9th, a move could be pushed through today.

Cedric clearly is of little help to Arteta’s project right now, and it’s time to move on for all parties.

Marquinhos could leave the club permanently

Although it won’t come as a surprise that Marquinhos could leave Arsenal on loan in the next day or so, a permanent move may not have been expected.

It was recently reported that talks for the Brazilian to head to Fluminense are moving fast.

And although a loan away from Arsenal was expected to drag on, it could now be concluded before the end of deadline day.

That being said, it was also shared that the Brazilian club would like to insert a buy-option in any deal – something that may suit Arsenal.

Arteta could spring a surprise

Let’s be honest, it seems fairly unlikely that Arsenal will sanction a signing today, Arteta said so himself.

But is it impossible that all these departures, including Lino Sousa to Aston Villa, lead to a last minute bid?

Arsenal are known to have long-standing interest in Everton’s Amadou Onana, and the Merseyside club may want to raise funds.

It’s certainly a long shot, but stranger things have happened at Arsenal on deadline day.

Onana is definitely a profile that would strengthen Arteta’s squad, be it now or in the summer.

And if Arsenal agree to further surprise departures today, they might be encouraged to make their move.
