Despite the defeat to Aston Villa, Mikel Arteta has got Arsenal playing with an identity and they look like a good shout for European qualification – but which three players deserve a pay rise under the Spanish boss?
Rob Holding
The 25-year-old has emerged as a crucial part of Arteta’s side this season despite the signing of Gabriel and the return of William Saliba. He has proved consistent, impressing in either a back three – or a four-man defence.
A £2million (BBC) signing from Bolton in 2016, Holding is now approaching 100 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners. Spotrac say he earns just £25,000 a week, so surely he deserves a bit more than that?
Mo Elneny

There has already been talk of 28-year-old star Elneny getting a new deal. Now in the last two years of his £50,000-a-week deal (Spotrac), the Egyptian has returned from a loan spell at Besiktas to shine under Arteta.
Arguably Thomas Partey’s best midfield partner – as proven by his display in the 1-0 win over Manchester United – Elneny should be given a new contract. Indeed, Arteta has spoken about a new deal in a press conference.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles
More so than the aforementioned duo, Maitland-Niles deserves a new contract – and that is because of his versatility. Right-back, left-back, central midfield, defensive midfield and even as a winger, Maitland-Niles offers quality.
Those kind of players are crucial in a team. His performances have seen him called up by England of late, while he has been linked with moves. Certainly, he deserves more than the £35,000 a week (Spotrac) he currently nets.
