Three areas Tottenham must improve to challenge for the title next season

Wembley Form

Continuing on from that forgettable European adventure, in which Spurs lost three of their six games and fell at the first hurdle, it was their failures at ‘home’ which proved fatal. However, home for those matches wasn’t White Hart Lane, but Wembley; a ground they must become accustomed to as they become the national stadium’s temporary residents next season.

Of the four games played there – including a Europa League draw with Gent – Spurs won just once (to CSKA Moscow, the side who finished below them) and failed to keep a clean-sheet. That form was in no way in keeping with their impressive Premier League record at White Hart Lane and will need to dramatically improve if they are to avoid an embarrassing season.

Almost two-thirds of Tottenham’s Premier League points this campaign were won at home. As well as that unbeaten record, they drew just twice and conceded a mere nine goals in nineteen games.

It is likely that work will already be underway to make Wembley as accommodating as possible, including altering the pitch size to match the specifications of their former home.
