Three areas Newcastle United need to strengthen in January to win the title

Newcastle have two very good strikers in Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic, but Rafa Benitez may look to add another to his squad in January. Daryl Murphy hasn’t been used very often since joining and looks like a player that has been brought in reasons other than his ability on the pitch. He is somebody that is likely to be moved on at the end of the season to another Championship side as he doesn’t have a long term future at St James Park. Mitrovic’s long term future is also uncertain as he has been linked with a move away on numerous occasions over the last few months.

Gayle has been excellent this season and already has 19 goals to his name, but there remain doubts about whether he can make the step up to the Premier League. Benitez may look to bring in a striker to give him more competition this season and provide himself with another option. One player that has been linked frequently is Callum Wilson, who would be seen as a good signing if Newcastle manage to bring him to St James Park. It also shows the calibre of player that Newcastle are looking to bring in and if he does come in, it would almost certainly guarantee promotion.
