3) Value for money with their transfer dealings
£89 million on Paul Pogba, whilst a good player, was clearly overpaying for a player who is still not yet the full package. £26 million for Henrikh Mkhitaryan may not have been over the odds, but the Armenian didn’t get going until mid-way through his first season at Old Trafford.
Those kind of mistakes cannot be made again by Ed Woodward and co. with improvements needed all over the pitch and speculation continuing that key figures such as David de Gea and Zlatan Ibrahimovic may be plying their trade elsewhere come the end of the transfer window.
Some of United’s reported targets, Griezmann and Lukaku included, will not come cheap, but Mourinho and his bosses should learn from this season that they need to make sure their players are ready for action come August and not take months to get up to scratch as they did this season.
