This has been a problem position from day one for Conte, with very little depth in the current Blues squad. Beyond N’Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas, who seems increasingly close to an exit, there are few experienced options.
Nathaniel Chalobah has filled in on occasion as a substitute, as has Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but Chelsea may prefer to loan out these youngsters to help them garner experience and aid their development, with neither yet possessing the quality to fuel a charge for the title.
Atlanta’s young sensation Franck Kessie has been subject to a £21 million bid according to the Guardian, with the Ivorian likened to the likes of Claude Makelele in the past for the way he breaks play up, but also with a Yaya Toure style reputation for breaking forward to score. He may be young, but Kessie could be the perfect fit.
