Youth players
A long-term concern for the club has to be the real lack of talent coming through the Chelsea youth system and into the first team. With John Terry, the most recent graduate to successfully establish himself in the first team, on his way out, the Blues have lost a highly valuable homegrown player just as they return to European competition, where it matters most.
At present, the only real presences in the Chelsea squad are Reuben Loftus-Cheek, Nathaniel Chalobah and Nathan Ake, none of whom played a major role this season and were all restricted to cameo appearances from the bench. Loftus-Cheek in particular has seen his progress stall in recent years.
Now Conte finds himself in a very tough position, with the likes of Ake likely to demand more regular football if they are to remain at Stamford Bridge, and with no names coming through the system who could provide a long term solution.
