It came as a shock when BBC Sport reported that Manchester United had agreed a £75 million fee with Everton for the purchase of Romelu Lukaku.

Throughout the summer, it had seemed that the Belgian was more likely to return to his former club at Stamford Bridge, having left to join the Toffees permanently in 2014.

With Chelsea yet to announce a major signing, with youth team additions and free transfer Willy Caballero the only players to put pen to paper on a move to the club, fans may begin to feel concerned. However, the club will now turn their attentions to other options on the market.

Here, The Boot Room identify three options for Chelsea to sign to replace Diego Costa as their star striker this summer…

Alvaro Morata

Reports indicate that Manchester United have dropped their interest in the Spaniard having agreed a deal with Everton for Romelu Lukaku, seemingly opening the door for Morata to move to Chelsea.

The Spaniard has been almost forgotten in recent speculation, with all eyes on a move for the Belgian. However, given his 20 goal return as a back-up option at Real Madrid this season, he has all the potential and goalscoring record to be an exciting option for Chelsea.

Undoubtedly the highest quality option that could be for sale this season, it seems that the club may have to get a move on with negotiations with Real Madrid with the Spanish club determined to get a high price for their youth product. Having just missed out on working with Antonio Conte in Italy, Morata could force through a move to join the Chelsea boss.
