1. Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain)
Although Marquinhos is a centre-half by trade, the Brazilian can double-up as an effective right-back to provide cover for Hector Bellerin and Carl Jenkinson and has all the quality necessary to challenge them for the starting spot. The Gunners are also in need of centre-back cover after Per Mertesacker’s long-term injury during pre-season, meaning the versatile Marquinhos may just be a perfect fit. With Calum Chambers a peripheral figure, Laurent Koscielny the only safe option and Gabriel failing to make his case, Wenger could do much worse than pursue Marquinhos as an addition to his defence.
He is a talented defender in world football but often finds himself short of first-team football given the form of Serge Aurier, Thiago Silva and David Luiz at PSG, and the lure of first team football would make Arsenal an attractive prospect. His ability to fill in at right-back, centre-half and defensive midfield would make him a great buy for the Gunners. although there would undoubtedly be competition for his signature.
