Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been putting his players through their paces as the Ibrox club gears up for arguably their most important season in years.
The Light Blues have gone from strength to strength over the past few years, but they fell short once again last season, and are currently in the process of ironing out their flaws.
However, Gerrard will have to make do without Nikola Katic, out for the “foreseeable future” with a cruciate ligament injury suffered while training last week.
It is not yet clear whether reinforcements will be sought in the summer transfer window, with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, George Edmundson and newcomer Calvin Bassey still available.
Earlier this week, Rangers coach Kevin Thomson suggested on the Rangers Youth DC Twitter feed that Lewis Mayo is currently in pole position to fill Katic’s place in the squad.
The 20-year-old has trained with the Gers first team in the past, and had a loan spell at Partick Thistle earlier this year, but is still waiting to make his debut for the Ibrox side.
Nonetheless, Mayo was pictured in training on Friday, and quite a few Bears had to do a double take considering the 6ft 2in youngster’s resemblance to Ibrox icon Sasa Papac:
