David Thompson has claimed on Twitter that reported Liverpool target Willian could be as good a free transfer signing as James Milner was – when the English ace moved to Anfield from Manchester City in 2015.
Milner, 34, joined Liverpool aged 29 and has since gone on to prove a crucial part in both Champions League and Premier League-winning campaigns. Since his move to Anfield, ‘Milly’ has clocked up 211 appearances for the Reds.
Meanwhile, Willian is now in a similar predicament to Milner in 2015. The Brazilian’s Chelsea contract expires this summer, and has been linked with plenty of Premier League clubs. SPORT claimed in April that Liverpool are keen.
The Sun say Arsenal and Tottenham are the frontrunners for 32-year-old Willian, who has had a hand in 18 goals this season. Now, Thompson believes he would be as good a signing as Milner on a free transfer.
Willian going to be the best free transfer for anyone since James Milner IMO??

TBR’s view – Would Willian bolster Liverpool’s ranks?
Willian would not start. Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are still two of the best wide attackers in European football, and the connection they have – along with Roberto Firmino – is near unbreakable.
However, Willian would be first reserve – and Jurgen Klopp may be more tempted to rest the likes of Mane and Salah with the knowledge he has a player like Willian waiting in the wings.
At the moment, Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Takumi Minamino provide cover but they are hardly the required standard of a side looking to complete a Premier League and Champions League double next season. A good signing.
