Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has now been sharing some of his thoughts on Eric Dier’s first minutes since leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Given how little football Dier enjoyed under Ange Postecoglou this season, the defender must be delighted with how his future transpired.

The England international has now linked up with Harry Kane in the Bundesliga and could be set for a big role immediately.

Dier was on the bench for Bayern’s game against Union Berlin initially last night.

However, with Dayot Upamecano needing to leave the match owing to injury at half-time, Dier was introduced

The Englishman played the entirety of the second half and maintained an important clean sheet as his new side sought to catch Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the table.

Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel spoke to Sky Germany after the game regarding Dier’s first minutes since leaving Tottenham.

Tuchel was impressed with his new defender, but admitted playing a whole half would have been a shock.

Tuchel’s words were shared by journalist Florian Plettenberg on X.

And it seems that Dier’s debut impressed the Bayern fans as well as his new manager.

Speaking at full-time, Tuchel said: “As expected. You feel his presence. He can handle it.”

“Playing a half was surprising for him. He lacks rhythm, but it was good.”

Of course, it now seems that Dier could get a lot more first team chances owing to the Upamecano injury mentioned.

Perhaps the English centre-back even has a chance to now prove why he deserves to be in Gareth Southgate’s thoughts ahead of the summer.

Dier was always a favourite of Southgate’s whilst at Tottenham, and Tuchel’s faith in the centre-back really could bode well.

Spurs fans will undoubtedly be pleased to see Dier playing his football again, he’ll always remain a fan favourite.

And whilst Postecoglou and Dier weren’t the right fit, there was no doubt that he could still perform at the highest level for another side.

That being said, Postecoglou has decided he really wants to invest in one player this season.
