Thomas Partey’s national teammate backs player’s move to Arsenal

Thomas Partey has been strongly linked with a move from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal in the coming months and his Ghana teammate Kasim Nuhu has backed such a transfer – claiming he would be joining the best league in the world.

Partey, 26, has been in excellent form over the past couple of seasons – establishing himself as one of Europe’s best holding midfielders. He has a release clause, as per Goal, worth just £43million which has enticed Arsenal.

The Telegraph claimed this month that Partey has informed friends that he wants to join Arsenal, who are in desperate need of a central midfielder that can add a bit of steel – and perhaps mirror the kind of style Patrick Vieira brought to north London.

Speaking on Instagram Live as quoted by Goal, Partey’s Ghana teammate Nuhu – who plays for German side Dusseldorf and is preparing to return to football this weekend – believes such a move to Arsenal would be a good one for Partey.

“Atletico Madrid is a very good club so he [Partey] is playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world and Arsenal is also one of the biggest,” Nuhu said. “For me, it is his decision because playing in Atletico Madrid is the same as playing in Arsenal.

“The two teams always make the same category in the league fighting for the third and fourth place to play in the Champions League but as we all know the Premiership is the best league in the world so if he joins Arsenal, I will be happy for him.”

TBR’s view – What do Arsenal need this summer?

Partey has got to be at the top of Arsenal’s shortlist. Steel, intelligence and an excellent array of passing – both backwards and forwards – Partey is the ideal anchoring midfielder. At his release clause, he is a bargain.

But Partey is not the only addition Arsenal need. A commanding centre-back is required, while a new striker could also be bought if Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette leave this summer.

Bukayo Saka’s future, a right-back and another winger may also be bought, while Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari’s loan deals need to be sorted. Partey, though, should be first choice.
