Arsenal are arguably in need of a midfield enforcer this summer, and one Champions League star showed this week he ought to be the Gunners’ priority.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been poor defensively this season, with the team’s backline coming under fire the most.
But it can be argued they could have better protection from the midfield in front of them.
Someone needs to come in and be an absolute force for Arteta – an individual who can press, win the ball and then find a forward pass.
One man who showed he’s all about those things this week is Thomas Partey, who delivered a steely performance for Atletico Madrid against Liverpool on Tuesday.
The Ghanaian warrior produced a stunning all-round performance at the Wanda Metropolitano, giving Liverpool’s workhorse midfield and world-class attack very little over the 90 minutes.
According to WhoScored, Partey made five tackles against the Reds, won three aerial duels and made one interception. He also produced two key passes.
TBR’s view – Partey would transform Arsenal
The 26-year-old is one of the world’s best in his position, and would be a potentially game-changing signing for Arsenal.
For years, the Gunners have been lacking a commanding presence in their engine room.
Partey is an all-action warrior, and his superb abilities could help tighten Arsenal up significantly.
The player is thought to have a €50 million/£42 million release clause in his contract (MEN), which in today’s market, is extremely good value for a man of his quality.
