Wolves are nicely poised for another push for European qualification once again this season. Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are currently seventh in the Premier League, eight points off the top four.
Champions League qualification seems unlikely but given the meteoric rise of the club over the last couple of years, you wouldn’t back against it.
Players will be targeted during the transfer window. Espirito Santo will hope to add players to his ranks who he feels are better than what he already has at his disposal.
The Sun on Sunday (12/01; page 63) reported that Birmingham midfielder Jude Bellingham was a target this month. It has also been reported in Mundo Deportivo that Thomas Lemar is a target for the Premier League outfit.
Both signings would bring something different to the table.
Bellingham, 16, would bring potential, raw ability and a knack of being a midfield nuisance for the opposition. Lemar, on the other hand, would bring real quality having spent time with Atletico Madrid and Monaco.
The man with 22 caps for France would make for a really intriguing addition for Wolves. Lemar has played 15 times for Atletico Madrid this season but is out of form.
It is thought that Wolves’ association with super-agent Jorge Mendes could hand them the advantage when it comes to signing the 24-year-old. If Espirito Santo can get him firing he could be perfect for the Molineux-based outfit.
Bellingham is a regular with the Blues despite his tender years. He would be more than good enough to go straight in as a squad player at Wolves.
Lemar is rated at £50 million, whilst any club who wants him on loan will need to pay £5 million (The Sun). He won’t come cheap but if Wolves can get him firing he could be worth every penny.
It might not happen this season but both players would be investments for the future. Whilst both would have an impact this season, in the next few years, they could contribute towards taking Wolves to the next level.
Lemar is still only 24 despite having seemingly been around for years and both he and Bellingham should be priority signings for Wolves.
