Thomas Frank has insisted – in comments reported by Football London – that Arsenal have a number of fantastic players, before listing five he believes to be outstanding.

The Gunners, of course, are preparing for their opening game of the new Premier League season.

Mikel Arteta’s side open up the campaign on Friday. They travel to Brentford to face the newly-promoted Bees.

It is a fascinating prospect. Arsenal will be looking to bounce back from a poor year last season.

And they will fancy their chances of, once again, immediately bursting the bubble of a side who have only just come up from the Championship.

But Frank’s men will also back themselves. Brentford were one of the second tier’s most impressive teams for a number of years.

Ahead of the game, the Dane was asked what about Arsenal worried him most. And he went on to pick out a number of players he particularly rated.

“We need to defend well, high and low, because when they are on it Arsenal have some fantastic players. Aubameyang, Lacazette, Pepe, Saka and Smith Rowe are outstanding players,” he said, as reported by Football London.

Arteta under pressure to hit ground running as Frank lauds Arsenal stars

It is probably fair to say that this summer window has received a mixed reaction amongst Arsenal fans.

The signings of Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares look set to benefit the Gunners for years to come.

However, it would be a bit kind to label the work done so far as an overhaul. A lot of the fringe players remain at the Emirates.

And further quality is certainly required in certain areas. So there is still a feeling of discontent amongst some of the fanbase.

Arteta is therefore, under a fair amount of pressure to hit the ground running.

He is not responsible for transfers. But that discontent surely has an impact on how the supporters will receive what happens on the pitch.

So it looks imperative that the Gunners get off to a fast start.
