Tom Cairney has posted on Instagram after captaining Fulham to a second Championship play-off win, and plenty of former teammates have responded – as has Leeds United star Barry Douglas.
Cairney, 29, played a crucial part in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Brentford after extra-time – with left-back Joe Bryan scoring twice to eventually cancel out a late Henrik Dalsgaard header.
It sees Cairney – who was part of the Leeds academy from seven years of age until he was 16 – gain promotion for the second time in the space of three seasons to the Premier League, via the play-off final.
He posted on Instagram after a tense game at Wembley, which saw Fulham completely nullify Brentford’s highly-rated attack in the form of Bryan Mbuemo, Said Benrahma and Ollie Watkins.
It sees Fulham join Cairney’s former youth side Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion in gaining promotion to the Premier League, while Brentford’s 73-year with for top-flight football continues.
Matty Targett played for Fulham in the Championship during the promotion-winning season of 2017-18, as did Ryan Fredericks and the Aston Villa and West Ham stars responded. Douglas also commented.
