'This week': Giovanni van Bronckhorst has potentially exciting transfer update for Rangers fans

Giovanni van Bronckhorst hopes Rangers will confirm a new signing this week in an interview with Sky Sports.

Van Bronckhorst was speaking ahead of the start of the Scottish Premiership this weekend, where his Rangers side travel to Livingston saying: “Hopefully we will sign a new player this week.”

Rangers have already been busy in the transfer market, bringing in six new players this summer, including Ben Davies from Liverpool and the ‘brilliant’ Tom Lawrence on a free transfer from Derby County.

Van Bronckhorst’s side should have plenty of money to spend after selling Calvin Bassey to Ajax for £20m and Joe Aribo to Southampton.

More Rangers transfer business ahead of Champions League qualifiers

According to the Athletic, Rangers are closing in on their seventh signing, as Besiktas and Turkey left-back Ridvan Yilmaz looks set to move to Ibrox.

The 21-year-old is likely to cost more than £4m, and would be a natural replacement for Bassey.

It would, therefore, make sense if Yilmaz was the player Van Bronckhorst was alluding to in his interview – which could be an exciting update for Rangers supporters.

When asked about the Champions League, van Bronckhorst added: “My focus is fully on the Champions League and we all know all the benefits that come from reaching the group stages, the development of my players as a team and club and of course financially it will bring a lot of finances into the club”.

After falling at the final hurdle in the Europa League last season, it will be interesting to what van Bronckhorst’s new recruits can help them achieve in Europe’s premier competition this year.
