Gary Neville has admitted that he feels new Leeds United winger Dan James’ problem is a common one.
Common issue
James said to the Telegraph that he felt he had become too safe in his play at Manchester United and after signing for Leeds he wants to start taking more risks.
When James arrived at Old Trafford, he was a direct winger, who loved running at defenders.
However, the 23-year-old’s confidence dwindled as time went on, and Neville feels that James is far from the only attacker to suffer with similar issues.
Fresh start needed
A fresh start at Leeds could be just what James needs, although the pressure will be on him.
James is now Leeds’ record signing and is a player who Marcelo Bielsa clearly rates.
He does have the potential ability to light up Elland Road during his time with the club, though.
James’ speed should make Leeds an even bigger threat on the counter and if he can get his confidence back and start taking more risks, that could be frightening for opposition defences.
The prospect of having Jack Harrison and Raphinha teaming up with James certainly gives Leeds an attack which will be the envy of most sides across England.
James could make his Leeds debut at the weekend, when Bielsa’s men take on Liverpool.
