Arsenal fans have been left confused after Mikel Arteta reportedly told Lucas Torreira that he had no future at the Emirates Stadium, according to Football London.
Confusing decision?
Torreira apparently returned to Arsenal this summer and told Arteta that he would like to be considered for a role in his midfield.
However, the Arsenal boss informed the £26m Uruguayan (BBC Sport) that he had no future at the club.
As a result Torreira now looks to be on the verge of leaving the Emirates Stadium.
But some Arsenal fans are baffled over why Arteta wasn’t willing to give him another chance.
Popular player
Torreira has always been a fairly popular player among Arsenal supporters, despite never quite nailing down a place in their first-team line-up.
His passionate and full blooded displays have endeared him to the Arsenal crowd, but Arteta is not the first Gunners manager to seemingly unconvinced by him.
Arsenal have added to their midfield options this summer too, with Albert Sambi Lokonga arriving and Martin Odegaard set to join.
That makes Torreira’s task of breaking through at Arsenal even more difficult, meaning that a move may actually be best for all parties, despite some Gunners fans’ protestations.
