Everton have gone fairly big in the transfer market this summer. The likes of Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Andre Gomes and Alex Iwobi have all arrived in big-money moves. Meanwhile, Everton also failed in big bids for the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
So why is this the perfect year for Everton to gamble big?
The top two teams this season looks very likely to be Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City. Tottenham Hotspur, under Mauricio Pochettino, are likely to be in the top three.
But the other teams in the top six are clearly there to be shot at this season.
Chelsea’s transfer embargo saw them fail to bring in new players whilst new boss Frank Lampard is inexperienced at this level.

Manchester United may have thumped Chelsea 4-0 yesterday, however, they are also still rebuilding under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Last season, they showed just how inconsistent they were. Everton know that first-hand, after imposing a 4-0 win over the Red Devils at Goodison Park.
As for Arsenal, they are also going through a transition and Everton will not feel they are a million miles behind the Gunners in terms of quality.
The top six looks primed for an assault this season with the likes of Wolves and Leicester City also looking to break the barrier.
Looking at the bottom tier of that top six, 2019-20 looks as likely a season as ever for Everton to return to the top six.
