‘This is more like it’: Some Arsenal fans react to links with ‘fantastic’ gem with ‘ridiculous engine’

Some Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media to reports by Marca, claiming Mikel Arteta’s side are interested in signing Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan.

The Gunners are among a clutch of top sides monitoring the Spanish midfielder. They have taken note of his progress in recent seasons while Arteta looks to strengthen his engine room.

Jordan enters the summer on the back of scoring two goals and penning seven assists across all competitions last term. His efforts helped Sevilla reach the Champions League last 16, Copa del Rey semi-finals and finish fourth in La Liga.

But Arsenal face a challenge to sign Jordan as the 26-year-old has been deemed untouchable by Sevilla. That is because he is a part of the pillar to Julen Lopetegui’s plans at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium with Diego Carlos and Fernando.

Celtic fans left short-changed by Sky Sports once again

Any side wishing to sign Jordan in the off-season must pay his full €60million (£52m) release clause. However, Sevilla doubt any club will activate the option due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

The Andalusian outfit also intend to hold talks with Jordan’s agent over a new contract once the transfer window closes. Sevilla do not feel the need to rush into discussions as he still has two years remaining on his current terms, but want to add another 12-months.

Arsenal fans react to Jordan reports

But while Sevilla hope to retain Jordan, some Arsenal fans have urged Arteta and Edu to seal a deal. That’s because they believe the Spaniard would be ideal for the ranks at the Emirates Stadium.

Not every fan expects Jordan to arrive in north London, however. A few instead suspect Arteta to have better options on his radar than the Sevilla maestro.
