'This guy is crazy': Lokonga says £25m Arsenal star works the hardest in training

Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has named Kieran Tierney as the best trainer in the Gunners squad.

The 22-year-old spoke about his “crazy” teammate on the Counter Attack podcast.

Tierney has long been a fan favourite at Arsenal thanks to his talent, hard-working attitude and down-to-earth personality.

And when asked about who works hardest in training, it’s perhaps unsurprising to hear Lokonga name the £25million man.

“KT, Tierney,” said the Belgium international. “This guy is crazy!

“He is running everywhere, tackling everywhere. Even when it’s cold, he’s there in shorts, no sleeves!”

Tierney is one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet, and when he’s out injured, Arsenal have tended to struggle.

The Gunners have duly addressed this issue by bringing in Oleksandr Zinchenko, who can play at left-back and in midfield.

Added competition for Tierney will help keep his – and Zinchenko’s – standards high.

And if the Scot is injured, the strength in depth is certainly there.

“Transmits every value that I would like to transmit to the club and our fans”

Last year, when Kieran Tierney penned a new contract, Arteta was eager to laud his left-back.

“Absolutely there is another character in this dressing room that transmits every value that I would like to transmit to the club and our fans [and it is Kieran],” Arteta told the Arsenal website.

“Again, it is young, hungry, talented, and people with huge desire and again he has all four ingredients – and he didn’t want to talk about anything other than staying here.

“He had a really, really good season after a really difficult start at the club and I really value people that when things aren’t going for them, they don’t give up.

“Kieran didn’t give up, he needed support and I think the club gave him a lot of support.

“But he was really willing to turn that situation around and prove people wrong if people were doubting him.

“That character, I think it shows on the pitch – when anything happens that is not going for us, you don’t give up.

“You just raise your level, try to be better and transmit that to the rest of the team so they all believe.

“Kieran has this capacity, and Emile as well, to lift the crowd with an action, Gabi Martinelli has this capacity – and this is something you either have or you don’t have.”
