Some Newcastle United fans have been left furious after chants of ‘Brucie give us a wave’ went up in the Gallowgate end last night.
Controversial chant
Bruce’s popularity at Newcastle took another dent yesterday, as they tumbled out of the League Cup to Burnley.
But supporters inside the ground, certainly didn’t seem to express any ill feeling towards Bruce.
Instead, the Newcastle boss was urged to give the home crowd a wave – in what could be seen as a show of support for the Magpies boss.
It’s fair to say that the chant was a controversial one.
And the reaction on social media to the claims that such a song was being sung by the home crowd did not go down at all well.
Still to win the fans over
Bruce has never won over Newcastle’s fans ever since he was appointed.
The Newcastle boss, in fairness, has tried to promote a more attacking style of play this season – although his side were poor going forward last night.
The defeat means that Newcastle have begun the term with three consecutive losses.
With Newcastle fans already fearing the worst before the campaign started, their opening to the season has hardly boosted the mood around St. James’ Park.
Newcastle are next in action at the weekend against Southampton, and it will be interesting to hear if any more chants in support of Bruce are sung, after yesterday’s cup exit.
