‘Things happened’: Bear axed by Gerrard comments on Rangers time turning sour

Glasgow Rangers boyhood fan Graham Dorrans has commented on his departure from Ibrox last year after he became surplus to Steven Gerrard’s requirements.

The 32-year-old midfielder joined Rangers from Norwich City in a £1.3million move (Sky Sports) in 2017 and there were high hopes for him at Ibrox.

However, Dorrans left Rangers two years later, his Ibrox contract terminated by mutual consent having made just 17 Scottish Premiership appearances for the Light Blues.

Injuries plagued his spell in Glasgow, and he made just three appearances under Gerrard.

Dorrans, who told the Daily Record that Gerrard didn’t speak to him before leaving the club earlier this season, has now spoken of “things” that happened at the club that he wouldn’t go into.

He told The Scottish Sun: “I grew up watching Rangers, so doing that in front of all my mates who were in the crowd was a feeling that will never leave me. Although it never worked out for me, that feeling alone was enough to tell me it was the right decision.

“I was trying to get back in but things happened at Rangers that I wouldn’t want to get into too much. For whatever reason, I couldn’t get fully fit and the manager decided I wasn’t going to be involved.”

It’s not the first time Dorrans appears to have aimed barbs at Rangers and Gerrard over how his time at Ibrox ended, and it’s a shame it didn’t work out for him at his boyhood club.

However, things seem to have worked out alright from a career point of view as he’s now enjoying his football again at Dundee, with 22 Championship appearances this season before the suspension of Scottish football.
