Thierry Henry has told CBS Sports Golazo that Harry Kane deserves a lot of credit following Tottenham Hotspur’s dramatic win over Marseille on Wednesday which saw Antonio Conte’s men book their Champions League knockout stage spot.

Spurs finished top of the group. But they gave their supporters a good scare inside Stade Velodrome. Defeat would have seen Tottenham knocked out. And they did indeed go behind – once again – before half-time.

Thankfully, Clément Lenglet and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg were able to turn the game around and ensure that Tottenham topped the group.

Kane did not have the best night in front of goal. But he did provide the assist for the vital winner. And when discussing Hojbjerg’s goal, Henry made a point of praising Kane’s performance.

“But I have to give a lot of credit to Harry Kane,” he told CBS Sports Golazo. “The amount of times he allowed his team to come, the amount of free-kicks he won, the amount of time he keeps the ball well.

“He plays through Son going off, Kulusevski is not there, Richarlison.”

Reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League could be a huge moment in Spurs’ season. They are a side which is still growing and developing.

There are some big concerns. They have now gone behind in their last five games in all competitions. And they are not going to be able to produce colossal comebacks on a consistent basis.

But they can now look forward to the next stages. And that may make a bit of a difference in January when they look at strengthening the squad.

Conte will want more quality to come in. They are also not that far off the pace in the Premier League right now.

If everything clicks, Tottenham are definitely going to be a side to fear in the coming months. Navigating their way through such a tricky group will give their confidence a huge boost.
