Paris Saint-Germain swept aside Real Madrid in Champions League action last night to start their campaign in style. Two goals from Angel Di Maria and a late finish from Thomas Meunier proved enough for the French giants to secure the win.
However, the star of the show was a player who left Everton this summer.
This summer saw Everton sell fan favourite Idrissa Gana Gueye to PSG. The 29-year-old left in a deal reported by The Guardian to be worth around £29 million.
He has wasted little time in showing why he was so highly rated by fans at Goodison Park in his early performances in the French capital.
Last night he was in sensational form, dominating Madrid’s midfield and providing an assist for Di Maria. It was a display that did not go unnoticed, including from his own captain. Thiago Silva shared his amazement at Gueye’s performance in conversation with RMC Sport.
“Idrissa, he’s amazing, I do not have words, I do not know how many balls he has recovered today, and it they were not easy balls. Gana did a very good match.”
Everton fans will not be shocked to hear that Gueye has had such a strong showing in Paris so far.
Fans of the club often spoke of his world-class ability and were devastated when he left Goodison Park in the summer.
Hopefully, he can continue to thrive in Paris as he left Everton on good terms with the club fanbase. He might even be the missing piece of PSG’s puzzle when it comes to winning the Champions League.
