'Everybody knows': Thiago makes bold Tyler Morton prediction after Liverpool win
Thiago Alcantara spoke to the official Liverpool website about Tyler Morton after the Reds’ win against Porto in the Champions League last night.
The Spaniard scored his second-ever goal for Liverpool to break the deadlock. It really was a stunning strike from outside of the box, but the biggest excitement of the night for fans at Anfield was arguably Morton’s debut.
The teenager started in the middle of the park along with Thiago and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Nobody really expected him to play the full 90 minutes, but he did, and it was a really impressive display for his age.
Thiago was quizzed about the 19-year-old and the Spaniard showered him with praise. He boldly claimed that Morton has an ‘unbelievable future’ at Liverpool.
Thiago predicts an ‘unbelievable future’ for Tyler Morton at Liverpool
The Spaniard, who has won almost everything in football, knows a fine talent when he sees one. He truly believes that Morton has what it takes to succeed at Liverpool in the coming years.
Thiago said: “You know that he has this inner talent that makes him different with his age.
“He has a long path, everybody knows that it is very difficult to arrive to this level of football, but the path will be easier for him because of his talent and also his intelligence – not just during the game, but watching it.
“He will have an unbelievable future here, I think, in this club.”
Morton’s stats v Porto
Making your Champions League debut is never easy for anyone, let alone a 19-year-old who has barely played for the senior side. However, Liverpool fans should be proud of the way Morton handled the game.
In his 90 minutes on the pitch, the teenager had 54 touches of the ball and maintained a decent 83 per cent passing accuracy. He made one key pass and completed two long balls, but lost possession nine times.
Defensively, Morton’s numbers are really good. He registered two tackles, two interceptions and two clearances, and also won 100 per cent of his aerial duels. (SofaScore)
That’s not bad at all for a 19-year-old on his Champions League debut and it’s no surprise that Thiago rates him so highly.
