Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has admitted that Leeds have made their mark in the Premier League in their comeback season back in the English top-flight.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website ahead of the Reds clash with Leeds at Elland Road on Monday night, the Scotland international revealed that he has been impressed with what Marcelo Bielsa’s side have accomplished so far this season, and that they deserve to be where they are in the Premier League table.
Leeds have won plenty of plaudits this season for their relentless style of football and their impressive results in their first campaign back in the Premier League in 16 years, with the Yorkshire side beating the likes of Manchester City, Leicester City and Everton.
And Robertson, who has a Transfermarkt valuation of £63m, believes that last season’s Championship winners have warranted their place in the Premier League, whilst also claiming that their style of play has shades of how Liverpool operate under Jurgen Klopp.
The Liverpool defender said when asked about Leeds: “You know they’re going to run to the end, they’re a bit similar to us in that, but the distance they cover is frightening. They play a very unique style which a lot of teams have struggled to adapt with. I think we struggled as well in the first game of the season, obviously finishing 4-3, it feels so long ago.
“I think they were kind of an unknown entity in the league then but now they’ve stamped their mark and stamped their authority on this league this season and that’s why they’re in the position they’re in.”
TBR View: Leeds deserve respect from Premier League rivals
It is easy to forget just how much hype was surrounding Leeds following their promotion to the Premier League last season, but now, with the majority of the 2020/21 campaign done and dusted, Bielsa’s squad have more than earned the respect currently coming their way from fellow players and coaches.
Leeds have blown expectations out of the water this season by comfortably competing with every team in the Premier League this campaign, and this first season will be used as an ideal launchpad to go from strength to strength with each new year in the top-flight.
