Tottenham Hotspur duo Djed Spence and Bryan Gil “will both get minutes” this season, according to Alasdair Gold.

The football.london Spurs correspondent made the claim on his latest fan Q&A on Tuesday.

Spence and Gil are two of Tottenham’s most highly-rated young players.

However, neither has enjoyed a particularly high amount of game time since their respective arrivals.

Spence joined Spurs from Middlesbrough this season to a considerable amount of fanfare.

The 22-year-old was sensational in the Championship on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.

However, Antonio Conte has only given Spence one appearance, a late cameo against his former loan side.

Meanwhile, Gil – who was superb on loan at Valencia last term – is yet to feature for Tottenham this season.

A fan asked Gold on his football.london Q&A about the current state of play regarding Spence and Gil.

“At the moment, they’re young players developing and there for squad depth, who will get their chance if they work hard and catch Conte’s eye,” replied the journalist.

“Personally, of the two, I’d have let Gil go out on loan and brought someone else in because I think he needs game time the most.

“Spence has never played top flight football so half a season at least spent learning what it’s all about is no disaster.

“They will both get minutes. It’s down to them to grab any chance they get to gain more.”

Conte has turned Tottenham around in a short space of time, testament to his world-class coaching and managing skills.

But with high-calibre coaching comes high-calibre standards that all the players have to meet.

While Spence and Gil are superb prospects, both seemingly need to get up to speed with Conte’s tactics.

Indeed, Yves Bissouma – who joined Spurs as one of the league’s top midfielders – is in the same situation.

That’s not to say they won’t make the cut – but they certainly need to work hard to get to the level Conte wants.
