Arsenal will “100 percent” be signing a new midfielder, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are currently quite light in the middle of the park.
Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Granit Xhaka recently tested positive for covid.

“I don’t know, it will depend on the next few days about how [Xhaka]’s feeling,” Arteta told football.london about when the Switzerland international could be back.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles would’ve been the ideal deputy in such circumstances, but he’s now on loan at Roma.
Therefore, there’s certainly scope for the Gunners to bring in some reinforcements in that position.
Arsenal have reportedly been eyeing a number of midfielders, such as Bruno Guimaraes, Arthur Melo and Youri Tielemans.
Romano, speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, gave some more insight on Arsenal’s midfield search.
The Italian journalist claimed a deal for Guimaraes is “really complicated if not impossible”.
Meanwhile, Arthur appears to be a bit more likely, though talks are apparently still in the formative stages.
‘They will sign a midfielder,” said Romano. “Hundred percent, and Bruno Guimaraes was the favourite option.
“But from what I’m told, Lyon want 45m euro in January, so it’s really complicated if not impossible.
“They’re looking for opportunities, one of the name they have in the list is Arthur Melo, Juventus midfielder.
“They had some contact with people close to the player to have a loan deal.
“It’s not club-by-club contact yet so let’s see if Arsenal will decide to jump into it. But they will go for a midfielder.”

Romano’s claim that Arsenal “will sign a midfielder” will surely go down well amongst Gunners fans.
Arsenal supporters won’t have been impressed with the club’s decision to let Maitland-Niles leave on loan right at the start of the window.
Albert Sambi Lokonga is currently the only orthodox senior central midfielder at the club.
Martin Odegaard and Calum Chambers could potentially play there, or Arteta could opt for Charlie Patino or Salah Oulad M’Hand.
Nonetheless, it’s not ideal, so it’s great to hear that Arsenal will soon bring someone else in, according to Romano.
