'They said he was finished': Some Liverpool fans buzzing over one player's display v Saints

A number of Liverpool fans have waxed lyrical about Reds star Virgil van Dijk following his superb display against Southampton.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges enjoyed a routine Saturday afternoon at Anfield as they ran out 4-0 winners over their opponents.

Diogo Jota opened the scoring in the second minute, poking home from an Andrew Robertson cross.

The Portuguese added a second in the 32nd minute, tapping into the empty net following good work from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah.

Thiago Alcantara made it three just five minutes later with a shot that took a slight deflection over a Saints defender.

And in the 52nd minute, Van Dijk made it four when he fired in first-time from the penalty spot from a Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The centre-back was also a colossus in terms of his defensive duties, making numerous clearances and interceptions, and was also great at playing the ball forward.
