Rio Ferdinand spoke on his Vibe with FIVE podcast about Arsenal stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

The Gunners seem to have turned a corner after a dismal start to the campaign. Mikel Arteta’s men were bottom of the league table after three games, but after a good run, they’re now just three points off defending champions Manchester City.

Aaron Ramsdale, Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White have been very important for the Gunners, while Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe have delivered consistently as well.

However, Ferdinand has heaped special praise on Arsenal’s two oldest players – Aubameyang and Lacazette – who he says are showing humbleness and leadership now.

Ferdinand: Aubameyang and Lacazette are more humble now

The Manchester United legend said: “The manner in which you (Arsenal) went there and gave them a quick one-two early doors in the game was for me one of the best performances I’ve seen in that first half. There was an element of control about it there for the first 25-30 minutes.

“What I liked about the team was I saw a humbleness in [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang and [Alexandre] Lacazette in the way that they played. They got back into a system.

“Again, they got back into a structure and they played for that team and led by example. I think they’ve lacked that leadership on the pitch when I’ve watched them at times and them two for me showed that in that game.”

Aubameyang and Lacazette didn’t get on the score sheet against Leicester City but both players had a very good game. They led the press from the front and that got the whole Gunners team going at the King Power.

Arsenal have the youngest team in the Premier League at the moment. The lack of experience is a worry, which makes the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette more important than ever this season.

So far, the two veteran strikers are leading by example. If they keep doing that, Arteta’s men will surprise a lot of people as the season goes on.
