‘They like him’: Chelsea now keen on Premier League 27-year-old Tottenham reportedly want – journalist

Chelsea could well battle Tottenham for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter, who was asked whether the Blues are eyeing Jan Oblak as a new recruit between the sticks.

Tottenham are looking for a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris, and in November, they were linked with a swoop for 27-year-old Raya.

It seems most likely that any move would happen in the summer and the same goes for Chelsea, so this is unlikely to be a January transfer window battle.

Chelsea could battle Spurs for Raya

Raya’s contract is due to expire in 2024 and as of yet, no solution has been found over a new one, despite a reported new offer in May.

That could get Chelsea and Spurs on red alert if Raya goes into the summer with just one year remaining on his current Brentford deal.

Both clubs need to spend in other areas of the pitch and if they could get an established Premier League goalkeeper at a cut-price, it would understandably be appealing.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has also expressed his admiration for Raya’s ‘incredible’ passing, as per BBC Sport.

Raya has been previously linked with Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal too, with Metro reporting in June 2021 that the Gunners had scouted him for a year.

But they did not think he was worth the £30 million asking price, and went for Aaron Ramsdale as their number one, offloading Emi Martinez and then Bernd Leno.
