'They know': Carragher claims West Ham have a new problem... and it's exactly the same as Tottenham's
Jamie Carragher has claimed that West Ham United are now facing the same problem at Tottenham Hotspur as they look to sign a striker, as per his comments on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports.
The Tottenham problem?
Antonio became West Ham’s record Premier League scorer last night, as they beat Leicester City 4-1.
Antonio scored a brace on the night to take his total for three for the season and his performance was highly impressive.
David Moyes has gone on record to say that he wants to bring a new forward to West Ham this summer.
However, Carragher thinks that task is actually getting difficult – as Tottenham have found out.
Spurs have been looking to sign a new number nine for multiple years now, but they have seen a reluctance with players wanting to join them.
That is because Harry Kane is at the club, so any player signing for Spurs knows that they will only ever arrive as back-up.
And Carragher thinks that Antonio is now such a strong option that West Ham are having the same issue.
“West Ham now have got one of those problems where if they went and got a centre forward now, who are they going to get better than him?
“They probably wouldn’t go to West Ham, with no disrespect.”
“The Spurs problem,” Dave Jones interjected.
And Carragher said: “Yeah! He’s that good now where you think, if we sign a centre forward he’s actually back-up and they have to know they’re back-up because this fella is that good.”
Antonio – number nine
For Antonio to have fully established himself as West Ham’s number one striker is a testament to how his game has developed in recent years.
He now is absolutely brilliant at occupying defenders, and he gave Leicester’s backline a torrid time last night.
If Antonio can stay fit, the West Ham front-man has laid the foundations to have an excellent season in front of goal.
And if West Ham are to repeat, or even better, last term – then they will be relying on Antonio to continue his rich vein of form.
