Arsenal are scheduled to make the short trip across North London to face Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow and Paul Merson has delivered his honest prediction.

The Gunners have had an underwhelming start to 2022. They are yet to win a game this year, but their performances against Manchester City and Liverpool were outstanding.

That will give Mikel Arteta and his men a lot of confidence going into the derby, even though Arsenal are expected to be without a number of their star players.

Merson still believes that the Gunners are better than Antonio Conte’s men at the moment and has backed them to complete the double over Tottenham on Sunday.

Paul Merson: Arsenal are better than Tottenham Hotspur

The Englishman wrote in his column on Sportskeeda: “This is a massive game, I’ve played in enough of these to know that. I think the tide has changed a little bit this season, so I fancy Arsenal to win this one.

“They are a better team than Tottenham at the moment and Son Heung-Min’s absence is a huge problem for Antonio Conte.

“Spurs have a few games in hand and if they manage to win them, they could break into the top four and cause a bit of trouble for Arsenal. They had the upper hand in this fixture a couple of years ago, but going by what I’ve seen in recent weeks, I’d be shocked if Arsenal lost.

“Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Arsenal.”

Arsenal look a lot better than Tottenham, even Antonio Conte admitted that in his press conference yesterday.

However, form goes out of the window in a derby and when you’ve got Harry Kane in your side, anything is possible.

Son’s absence is a massive blow for Tottenham, but Arsenal have multiple problems too. The Gunners could be without as many as 10 players for the derby this weekend, which should give Spurs an edge if the game goes ahead as planned.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. If Merson is proved right and Arsenal pick up a win over Spurs despite all their problems, Conte and his men will have to take a long, hard look at themselves.
