These Sunderland fans are not bothered as club miss out on striker targets

Sunderland have failed to secure either of the striker’s arrivals this summer.

It appears Sunderland may have missed out on two of their striker targets this summer. Lawrence Shankland and James Wilson have both headed elsewhere despite recent links with Sunderland.

Shankland had an excellent campaign at Ayr United last term. The Scottish striker scored 34 goals in 41 games for Ayr last season and was available on a free transfer. As reported by The Chronicle, Sunderland boss Jack Ross is a big fan of the 23-year-old and hoped to bring him to the Stadium of Light this summer.

However, Shankland has decided to stay in Scotland. The striker has joined Dundee United on a free transfer.

The Chronicle suggests that Sunderland may have expressed an interest in ex-Manchester United striker James Wilson this week. The frontman was also a free agent after his deal at Old Trafford came to an end.

However, he has agreed to remain at Aberdeen, with whom he had a loan spell last term.

But Sunderland fans on Twitter are taking the news quite well. Plenty of Black Cats supporters felt that Wilson, in particular, was not at the level needed to thrive at Sunderland.

Shankland, although a prospect, is unproven in English football and many felt he would have been a gamble from Ross as a major first-team player.

Here is some of the best reaction from Twitter…
